Museums and monuments

The six museums in Katwijk each have their own share of art and culture. In the Katwijks Museum you’ll find – among other things - an impressive collection of paintings and an overview of the fishing history. The Spinozahuis is the small house in which the philosopher Benedictus de Spinoza lived and worked from 1661 until 1663. Here, you’ll find a unique reconstruction of Spinoza’s library and a collection of letters and portraits. Museum Oud Valkenburg is a treasure trove of archaeological finds from (Roman) Valkenburg. And last but not least, there’s Stoomtrein Katwijk Leiden, a steam locomotive museum with one of Europe’s biggest collections of original narrow-gauge trains.
