More info

The new exhibition at the DUNA studio, 'Along natural and industrial landscapes' is on display from 8 March to 1 April.

On display in the basement is work by Alice Pardon and Petra Nicole, both working in Leiden in the studio building on Haagweg. Their exhibition was entitled "Along natural and industrial landscapes".

Alice mostly gets her inspiration from bicycle trips or walks in nature. A beautiful leaf, a piece of wood, flower, moss, etc., anything can give her ideas. This is how her creativity gets going. She then uses branches, twigs, paper and leftover material for her works of art. The design partly depends on the materials found. Using craft techniques, she (sometimes) reworks and transforms them into objects. She also uses flowers and leaves for ecoprinting. In addition to this work, she likes to photograph and seeks connection with drawing, painting and spatial work. Sometimes not directly reducible; there must remain something to fantasise about.

Petra Nicole's drawings are a world of fantasy and concoctions from her (industrial) work past. The many memories from her former work as a lab technician and furniture maker, but also the impressions she got as a child of the machines and the interior of father's factory, are the direct inspiration. A fascinating world consisting of vivid building plans, machines and rooms with doors, pipes, silos, halls, stairs and shutters. You can also see imaginative shapes that lead you through the entire drawing via pipes and pathways. Her passion for industrial landscapes and equipment results in drawings that arouse curiosity, beauty and wonder. It is a creative take on the gritty, mechanical world of industry where she celebrates the ingenuity of human technology. She also hopes to inspire people to think about the impact of industrialisation on our lives and the environment.
