Katwijk’s heritage

There’s no shortage of cultural history in Katwijk. The Romans left their marks in Valkenburg, and much of the history of Katwijk is on display in the museums. This is not limited to the fishing community. There is also the history of the artist’s colony in the village a hundred years ago. More than eleven hundred Dutch and foreign painters were inspired by the clean air, the clear light and the hard and simple life of the fishermen.
